Wayanad Has a Secret,It's Called Amber Woods

the peaceful resort in wayanad

There’s a moment that happens to most people somewhere in their late twenties or thirties. You’re at a resort nice enough place, good reviews, pool looks exactly like the photos  and somewhere between the breakfast buffet and the checkout queue you think: this isn’t actually rest, is it?

You’re surrounded by other people’s noise. You’re sharing everything  the pool, the lawn, the sunset view  with strangers who got there slightly earlier and claimed the good chairs. You come home with a tan and a camera roll and somehow still need a holiday from the holiday.

Amber Woods exists as an answer to that feeling.

One villa. One group. No compromises.

The premise is beautifully simple. Amber Woods is a single private villa in Padinjarathara, deep in the forests of Wayanad. Two bedrooms, a private pool, a forest sitout, and a caretaker who looks after you without hovering. When you’re there, the whole property belongs to you and nobody else.

No shared spaces. No other guests at the next sunbed. No polite smiling at strangers over breakfast. Just you, your people, and a forest that has absolutely no interest in your schedule.

It’s the kind of setup that feels almost obvious once you experience it. Why did we ever accept anything less?

The villa, honestly

Walk in and the first thing you notice is the quiet. Not silence  the forest is full of sound  but the absence of human noise. No corridors with trolleys rolling past. No distant music from a pool bar. No air conditioning units humming through shared walls.

The two bedrooms are proper rooms  beds that you actually sleep well in, AC that earns its keep in the warmer months, enough space to feel like you’ve arrived somewhere rather than checked into somewhere. The living area is warm and unhurried. The kind of room that makes you put your phone face-down without thinking about it.

But the sitout is where you’ll live. Facing the forest, open to whatever the weather is doing, with a view that changes every hour depending on the mist and the light and the mood of the trees. Morning coffee there is not a thing you forget quickly.

The pool changes everything

I’ll be honest I didn’t expect to spend as much time in the pool as I did. But when it’s entirely yours, something changes. There’s no awkwardness about which sun lounger to pick, no timing your swim around other guests, no polite nodding at strangers. You just get in when you feel like it and get out when you don’t.

The pool is surrounded by forest on all sides. Swimming in the evening, with the sky going dark and the trees settling into silhouettes, is one of those experiences that doesn’t photograph particularly well but stays with you for a long time afterward.

What to actually do

Banasura Sagar Dam is about ten minutes away and worth the trip  especially early in the morning before any heat sets in. The views are broad and calm, the kind you stand in front of and forget to take photos of because you’re actually just looking.

From Amber Woods you can also organise jeep trekking, plantation visits, and guided tours to places like Soochipara Falls or Chembra Peak. The team will help arrange it. But genuinely, some of the best hours we had were ones where we did absolutely nothing. Read books. Swam slowly. Ate breakfast without looking at the time.

Amber Woods Resort is located in Padinjarathara, near Banasura Sagar Dam, Wayanad, Kerala. Bookings and enquiries via amberwoodsresort.com or WhatsApp at +91 92074 74300.
